The term “mystical union” has been used throughout
history by Christians when speaking of a believer’s union with Christ in
salvation. Here are just a few of the things which scripture tells us are true
of a believer "in Christ" (in salvation).
------ “IN CHRIST” A BELIEVER:
1 & 2. Is Justified (declared righteous before God) and
redeemed (freed from their bondage in sin).
Romans 3:24 Being JUSTIFIED freely by his grace through
the REDEMPTION that is IN CHRIST Jesus:
3. Is sanctified (set apart as holy unto God).
1 Corinthians 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at
Corinth, to them that are SANCTIFIED IN CHRIST JESUS ...
4. Is a new creature.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be IN CHRIST, he is A NEW
CREATURE: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
5. Is blessed with all spiritual blessings.
Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, who HATH BLESSED US WITH ALL SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS in heavenly
places IN CHRIST:
6 Is complete, needing nothing other than Jesus and
His word.
Colossians 2:10 And YE ARE COMPLETE IN HIM, which is the
head of all principality and power:
7. Has all of their sins forgiven.
Ephesians 1:7 IN WHOM WE HAVE redemption through his
blood, THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS, according to the riches of his grace;
8 Is accepted by God.
Ephesians 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace,
wherein he hath made us ACCEPTED IN THE BELOVED.
The beloved is Christ, who through His death,
burial, and resurrection has made the believer to be accepted by God. And here
is my favorite one...
9. Has eternal life.
1 John 5:11 And this is the record, that GOD HATH
GIVEN TO US ETERNAL LIFE, AND THIS LIFE IS IN HIS SON.
10. Is made the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us,
who knew no sin; THAT WE MIGHT BE MADE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN HIM.
Not only are a believers sins forgiven by Christ
because He died for them, but a believer is also made the very righteousness of
God IN HIM. This means that the very righteousness of Jesus Christ (who is God),
having lived a sinless life, and having kept God's law perfectly, is accounted/imputed
to the believer IN CHRIST (in salvation). A believer stands before God clothed
in His very own righteousness. Therefore, God will no more condemn a believer
than he will condemn His very own son. Praise God! This is really good news!
