Are Roman Catholics saved?
According to the Bible
- If they believe the FALSE gospel of Roman Catholicism (R.C. from here on),
they are NOT.
Galatians 1:6-9 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him
that called you into the grace of Christ unto ANOTHER GOSPEL: Which is not
another; but there be some that trouble you, and would PERVERT the gospel of
Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach ANY OTHER GOSPEL unto
you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said
before, so say I now again, If any man preach ANY
OTHER GOSPEL unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
The gospel of R.C. is NOT the same as the Biblical
gospel.
The Bible teaches that salvation is:
1. By grace
ALONE.
Romans 11:6 And if by GRACE, then is it no more of
works: otherwise grace is no more grace...
2. Through faith
ALONE.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye
saved through FAITH; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: NOT OF
WORKS, lest any man should boast.
3. Because of
Christ ALONE.
Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of
his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had BY
HIMSELF purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Notice the word "alone". R.C.
teaches salvation by grace, through faith & because of Christ. But Roman
Catholicism does not teach salvation by grace ALONE, through faith ALONE,
because of Christ ALONE. They add man's works to grace, sacraments to faith,
and Mary to Christ.
As I explained above, the gospel of Roman
Catholicism (R.C.) is NOT the true Biblical Gospel. For example, the R.C. Mass
is not the same as Communion (The Lord's Supper). According to R.C. teaching,
the Mass is something that R.C.'s are to participate in to get their
sins forgiven.
The following quotations are taken from the
official "Catechism of the Catholic Church" Promulgated by Pope John
Paul II, copyright 2000.
1393 Holy Communion SEPARATES US FROM SIN. The body of Christ we
receive in Holy Communion is "given for us" and the blood we drink
"shed for the many for the forgiveness of sins." For this reason the
Eucharist cannot unite us to Christ without at the same time CLEANSING US FROM
PAST SINS and preserving us from future sins:
1394 As bodily nourishment restores lost strength, so THE EUCHARIST
strengthens out charity, which tends to be weakened in daily life; and this
living charity WIPES AWAY VENIAL SINS. By giving himself to us Christ revives
our love and enables us to break our disordered attachments to creatures and
root ourselves in him: (bold, color, & underlines mine)
We know that the Biblical gospel teaches that
Jesus died once for all of a believers sins past,
present, and future.
Hebrews 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and
calves, but by his own blood he entered in ONCE into the holy place, HAVING
OBTAINED ETERNAL REDEMPTION FOR US.
Hebrews 10:10 By the which will WE
ARE SANCTIFIED through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL.
Hebrews 10:14 For by ONE OFFERING he hath PERFECTED FOR
EVER them that are sanctified.
Romans 4:7-8 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities ARE FORGIVEN, and
whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord WILL NOT IMPUTE
SIN.
Therefore, to participate in the
"sacrifice of the Mass" to get one's sins forgiven is to reject the
TRUE Biblical gospel in favor of a FALSE GOSPEL which is no gospel at all, and
that cannot save.
So I can say, based upon the authority of
God's word, that those who believe the false gospel of
Rome and go to Mass in order to get their sins forgiven are NOT saved. No one
can be saved by believing in a FALSE GOSPEL. And that is not me judging their salvation, it is God judging it - for it is His own word
that declares this to be true.
What people do not understand is that the
Bible is given to show us the difference between the true gospel and false
gospels (Gal 1:6-9). We are to warn people about such things. That is what the
"the defense and confirmation of the gospel" (Philippians 1:7) is all
about. It is part of contending for the faith (Jude 1:3).
Can
a Roman Catholic be saved?
Yes, IF they repent and turn from their false
religion (R.C.) and believe the TRUE Biblical gospel. And IF they TRULY
BELIEVE, then they will also heed God's call (John 10:27) to come out and be
apart from that false religion and the false teachers associated with it (they
will NOT continue going to a R.C. church). Here are just a few verses:
2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Be ye not unequally
yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with
unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with
darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or
what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath THE
TEMPLE OF GOD WITH IDOLS? for ye are the temple of the
living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I
will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore COME OUT FROM AMONG
THEM, AND BE YE SEPARATE, SAITH THE LORD, and touch not the unclean thing; and
I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and
ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord
Almighty.
1 Corinthians 10:21 YE CANNOT drink the cup of the Lord, AND the
cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table,
AND of the table of devils.
Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven,
saying, COME OUT OF HER, my people, that ye be not
partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
Romans 16:17-18 Now I beseech you,
brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences CONTRARY TO THE DOCTRINE
which ye have learned; and AVOID THEM. For they that are such serve not our
Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches
deceive the hearts of the simple.
1 Timothy 6:3-5 IF ANY MAN TEACH OTHERWISE, and CONSENT NOT TO
wholesome words, even THE WORDS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, and to the doctrine which
is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about
questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy,
strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the
truth, supposing that gain is godliness: FROM SUCH WITHDRAW THYSELF.
The Bible tells us that true faith will
result in works of obedience (James 2:14-26) and that those who are truly
saved will make a practice of obeying God's commandments while those who are
not truly saved will not (1 John 2:3-4). So, according to the teaching of
Scripture, if a R.C. truly gets saved they will obey God's call to
repent and come out from that false religion (R.C.) and will not remain in the
R.C. church.
